Needing an Orange Ink for My Sketches

As you can see from my previous inky blog posts, I’ve been building a stash or a range of shimmering ink colors from Robert Oster. It’s the brand I like to use for my artwork and I’ve been building a good range of colors in my stash.

Over the past few years, I have collected several shimmering inks from Diamine, Van Diemen’s and Colorverse. They were gorgeous shimmering colors that I came across at the local pen show or on social media and even from one of the Inkvent calendars I participated in.

As I was flipping through my Robert Oster Col-o-ring swatch cards, I noticed I was missing an orange shimmering ink color. I added ” orange shimmers” to my pen show wish list and it was on the second day of the show I came across this bright orange ink called Glistening Orange Rumble.

It’s a beautiful and vibrant orange color on paper and the orange ink is readable.

This ink does glisten

It’s a bright and lovely orange ink with subtle hints of shimmer.

I have to admit I was not sure what color I was seeing in the shimmering particles. I ended up turning the bottle on its side to take a picture.

Definitely bright orange sparkles

Here’s a picture of my orange-like shimmering ink swatch cards next to Glistening Orange Rumble.

Here are my regular (no shimmer) ink swatches next to Glistening Orange Rumble. Wonderland is also a bright orange ink and is very close in color with a bit more yellow undertone.

Here’s another regular inky swatch comparison with Glistening Orange Rumble.

My swatch comparisons are all over the place from a golden-like orange to very dark orange-brown colors.

In my writing sample above, I mentioned I’m not into orange colors. This shimmering ink has changed my mind.

Here’s my Peach sketch where I’ve added layers of Heart of Gold and Blood Rose ink over the Glistening Orange Rumble ink. This lessened the brightness of the orange color. I had a lot of fun with this pen & ink wash sketch and it was lovely to see how well the colors worked together.

I’m quite happy to use this bright orange shimmering ink for writing and for my artwork. The color is readable on paper and I’ve been writing a lot with this color in my journal. In my sketches, I can layer other colors over it and create some beautiful range of colors in my artwork. This is definitely a happy color choice I made.

Oooo… orange is one of my favorite ink colors (after brown and green). I have the solid (but conservative) standbys–Diamine’s Ancient Copper and Autumn Oak–but no fancy orange. Some very nice options among your swatches. 🙂

My friend, I hope you are doing well. You reminded me that I have Ancient Copper, but for some reason I’m missing that swatch card. My swatching technique has changed over the years and I might have set a few older ones aside to redo. So many fun things to do and not enough hours in a day…. 🙂
